Supported Browsers

Microsoft Internet Explorer

There has been much recent talk about Microsoft ending all support for Internet Explorer in August 2021.  This is not 100% correct.

On August 17th, 2021, Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported for Microsoft’s online services like Office 365, OneDrive, Outlook, and more. Microsoft is also ending support for Internet Explorer 11 with the Microsoft Teams web app later this year, with support ending on November 30th.

Recent Microsoft Update

Whilst the above indicates that Microsoft will continue supporting Internet Explorer past the end of the year, a recent update from Microsoft says “Microsoft has announced that the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10”.

This indicates all support will stop for Internet Explorer at that time.  Microsoft Edge will have the capacity to run in IE mode, however we don’t anticipate this being as good an experience as it currently is now.

Where does this leave Nimbus Users

Nimbus has been communicating with our clients about this for many years now so it should come as no surprise. Our first iteration of V6.08 released at the end of 2018 supporting the Chrome Browser.  Subsequent version updates and the new Version 6.09 (due for general release next month) continues to be Chrome Browser compatible.  Whilst not officially supported by Nimbus, some sites are even enjoying success with using Microsoft Edge as their browser of choice.

If you have maintained your Nimbus system with regular upgrades this change by Microsoft should not affect you. However, please get in touch if you are on a version of Nimbus which is 6.07 or earlier, as we will need to start planning your upgrade to the latest version of Nimbus. Fortunately, the upgrade will not only solve your IE issues and any business risk associated with an unsupported browser, but it will also allow you to take advantage of some very exciting features of our latest version.
